As photographer you look at others work all the time. Sometimes you get inspired and new ideas grow from this. But from time to time it makes sense to reflect your own work. I look through all my images I took this year and picked the five that I like the most. See which one those are in this Blog-Post. Spoiler-Alert: It's not the one you see here ;)
I took roughly 6000 pictures this year. Thats not a lot, but I am not counting those for costumers or while at work. That would likely double that count. Nevertheless it wasn't to easy to find my top-five-favourites, but here they are
#5 Triberger Waterfalls
The Triberger Waterfalls are the highest waterfalls in Germany. Although the weather didn't work out like we hoped, I like the outcome of this long-exposure quite well because of its mood. It works great with the foreground, the main subject and the background. And it was a nice day which I like to remember whit this image.
#4 Tanah-Lot Temple in Bali
This long exposure of Tanah Lot, a temple on the beautiful island Bali, makes it on place four. How this small piece of land, cleary whit houses on it, stand in the wide ocean fascinates me. I was lucky enough to get a few clouds (although that means you have to catch the one moment where the sun is out) which work well together with the white waves. The bit of foreground gives you an idea how far this temple is out in the sea.
#3 Birds over the patio
This building - The Actelion Business Center by Herzog & DeMeuron - is stunning in itself with its form and brings out a lot of different angels to photograph. Most pictures where taken from the street, showing all this single bares stapled on each other. So I looked for an different angle and found in in the inside where the building has kind of a patio. The birds in the picture are a great contrast on the one hand as it shows the nature on a manmade-space but also fits perfectly on the other hand as the fly in a free order - like the house itself.
#2 Devil's Claw
The proof that getting up (really) early can pay off. This image where captured on Big Island, Hawaii where the Lava flows into the ocean. During that time, it fell like an waterfalls. That makes a good image for itself, but looking closer to this one offers some new sights. The Lava falls into something that looks like a open hand or claw. On the left side, built by the smother appears a face (an angry looking one - maybe the devil?).
#1 Pomegranate in the Dark
My favorite image of this year is also one that I have printed already a few times (and is also available as a postcard). I like it because of its colors, simplicity and that everybody can see a different story behind it. It makes it easily my top-choice of this year.
I also like the one on the title very much bye the way, I could have chosen easily all five from Hawaii or Bali because both places are so beautiful, but I limited myself to one each.
Hope you like my selection, what do you think about it? Let me know in the comments below.
